Fast workflow
Enter a phrase in the Source text field and the distorted text generator updates the preview immediately. Start with a preset, choose a distortion type if you want to override it, then move the 0–100 intensity slider. Copy Current Distortion when the preview fits, or choose a lighter row below.
For a more general broken-letter effect, compare the glitch text generator. This page is built around controlled text distortion: named use cases, measurable output size, repeatable patterns, and a clean fallback.
The preset also sets how much source text is processed. Username removes whitespace and keeps the first 28 Unicode code points. Short caption keeps 72, Horror line 48, and System error 64. Username begins at intensity 34, Short caption at 44, System error at 58, and Horror line at 76; changing the type or slider afterward overrides those defaults.
The first result row always matches the live preview. The remaining rows compare other distortion types, followed by Light Readable and Base Text. Duplicate outputs are removed, so a simple input can show fewer rows. Copy all rows creates a labeled bundle for side-by-side paste tests.
Why control matters
The effect comes from Unicode combining marks added around ordinary letters. Those marks can make a short distorted message technically much longer than it looks. For example, by default, the phrase “broken signal” becomes 32 JavaScript string characters and 51 UTF-8 bytes with 19 combining marks; the Base Text row stays at 13 characters, 13 bytes, and zero marks.
The risk badge evaluates the current result instead of guessing from appearance alone. High risk begins at intensity 78, 60 combining marks, or 240 bytes. Medium begins at intensity 50, 24 marks, or 140 bytes; results below all three thresholds are Low. A low label is guidance, not a promise that every app will render the text identically.
With the distorted text generator, the same source, type, intensity, and seed produce the same pattern, so the preview does not shuffle while you decide what to copy. Regenerate intentionally changes the seed. If lowering the slider is not clean enough for the selected type, use Base Text; intensity zero is not guaranteed to remove every mark from every distortion recipe.
Use cases
Use readable text distortion for a nickname, short bio, caption, game status, spooky line, or fictional system warning. Username is the compact starting point for handles. Short caption preserves spaces, Horror line produces the densest cursed result, and System error turns source spaces into underscores before spacing out the letters.
Choose Readable Glitch when the words still need to scan quickly. Cursed Zalgo suits very short horror text. System Error creates a terminal-like distorted message, while Cryptic Noise pushes marks below and around letters for strange labels or codes. These are Unicode text effects, so they remain copyable rather than becoming an image.
Discord, Roblox, Minecraft, Instagram, TikTok, and other destinations may clip stacked marks, reject long strings, or substitute a different font. Paste-test the exact row in the intended field. For a distorted Roblox name or profile label, begin with Username, then use Light Readable if the first result wraps or is rejected.
Scope limits
Although some searches call this a distorted typography generator, the result is Unicode text, not a font file or graphic. The tool does not bend letter outlines, export PNG or GIF files, install fonts, or reverse arbitrary corrupted text from another source.
The distorted text generator reports three metrics for each string: combining marks count added marks, bytes estimate UTF-8 storage, and characters report JavaScript string length. These figures help compare rows, but they do not predict a platform’s exact visual height or character limit.
Keep heavy distortion decorative. Do not use it for instructions, account recovery text, safety information, legal copy, or anything that must be accessible. When readability matters, copy Light Readable or Base Text and keep the styled version as optional emphasis.
